FRIENDS OF THE UMASS AMHERST LIBRARIES HOSTS
EIGHTH ANNUAL RECEPTION AND DINNER
"Dinner with Friends" is April 10, 2010
Amherst, Mass. - On Saturday, April 10, 2010, at 6:30 p.m., the Friends of the UMass Amherst Libraries will host the eighth annual "Dinner with Friends" in the Learning Commons at the W.E.B. Du Bois Library on the UMass Amherst campus.
The event features talks by three notable speakers: authors Bernard A. Drew and Jacqueline Sheehan, and illustrator and 2009 Caldecott medalist Beth Krommes MAT '80, as well as a champagne and hors d'oeuvre reception with the UMass Jazz Quartet, and a gourmet dinner. Tickets are $140 per person or $250 for two ($95 and $160 are tax-deductible donations respectively). Complimentary passes for the parking garage will be provided. Handicap parking is available next to the Library.

Dinner with Friends, April 10, 2010 - Speakers' bios:
Author, journalist, and historian, Bernard A. Drew is the author of more than 30 books. An avid Berkshire County, MA historian, his books on African American history include If They Close the Door on You, Go in the Window (2004), an overview of the origins of the black community in South Berkshire County, and Dr. Du Bois Rebuilds His Dream House (2006), about Du Bois's relationship with his hometown.
Winner of the 2009 Caldecott Medal for The House in the Night, Beth Krommes MAT '80 is a wood engraver and painter who focuses on children's book illustration. Her first book, Grandmother Winter, was published in 1999. Some of her other books include Butterfly Eyes and Other Secrets of the Meadow (2006), The Hidden Folk (2004), and The Lamp, the Ice, and the Boat Called Fish (2001), which won several awards.
Jacqueline Sheehan Ph.D. is a fiction writer, essayist, and practicing psychologist. Her first novel, Truth (2004), is based on the life of Sojourner Truth. Her second novel, Lost & Found (2007) has been on the New York Times Bestseller List and has been optioned for film by Katherine Heigl, star of "Grey's Anatomy." Her third novel is Now & Then (2009). Jacqueline teaches writing and yoga workshops in the U.S. and internationally.
