  • Friends of the Library

Friends of the Library is dedicated to ensuring the strength and vitality of the Library—its collections and its facilities.  In the 1880s, alumni “friends” ambitiously organized to raise the funds needed to build the first library on campus, Old Chapel.  Annual contributions continued through the years, and in 1970, a formal “Friends of the Library” organization was established.

Governed by a Board of Trustees that includes elected, appointed, ex-officio and honorary members, the Friends organization holds two meetings each year and publishes a newsletter in the spring and fall.  Membership in the Friends is automatically extended to each donor to the Library.

Gifts from students, faculty, alumni, parents and others are used to purchase new materials, preserve the old, and provide instructional facilities and programs.   Our generous Friends provide support that adds a margin of excellence to the Library’s collections and facilities.
